「可能性はあるかないか? ゼロでない限り、常に可能性は “ある” のです。多少や高低など、程度をいうなら蓋然性です。二つの概念を混同してはなりません」

　最近の新聞記事をみると、可能性を possibility ではなく、probability の意味で使っている例が多く見られます。

　probability は普通、蓋然性とか公算と言います。

　見込み、確からしさ、確率ということもあります。

　それがどうしたことか、最近は可能性一本槍になりました。

　新聞は影響力が大きく、用語は正しく使って貰いたい。

　可能性と蓋然性は概念がはっきり別で、混同は許されません。
